I
joined smartData on 28th June 2007. Roughly it is 6 years and 10 months since my
first day. Every day a new day, mistakes, failures, wins, highs and lows, its
has all been there in since then. Now, I see I am on my 7th overseas trip in
this time, and 6 of them to Australia and 1 to Singapore. Numbers are sometimes
every interesting when you start relating it to incidents in life - 6 years - 6
trips to Australia.
Any
oversea trip of any person from a organisation shows 2 things - Faith of the
management on the individual, and the Responsibility s/he has to carry on. It
is good and makes me confident as well as nervous at times. With new people
around here, I do try to pick up things on their culture, their business &
work ethics, work styles and all. It has been a learning always, but I always
try & wish to pass on the good work habits to team back home.
Initially
first few days was hard purely because suddenly started to miss the society. No
one to talk around. It was quite all around. Suddenly I even realised that the
dog I used to curse every morning due to his barks, was being missed.
Luckily, I met few people at office and around and things started to settle
down. It’s still quite as it used to be socially, but the few people around and
you feel good about it.
Another
interesting feeling which took time to soak into, suddenly all around are
foreigners :). But then a sense of excitement helped to overcome these initial
thoughts. Saw it as a new group of people, not just a single culture but
multiple cultures to learn and get the good things. Not just a single community
into business but people from many different coming out here for work &
business.
Slowly
started embracing things and it turned out to be turning out as a second home.
It sometimes is hard on special occasions, but things started to turn out
when life gets busy.
Few
tips for everyone who will travel abroad:
1.
Socialise with local people. They are normal humans like us, just different
language & culture.
2.
Learn directions even if you don't need to travel that much. You won’t ever feel
lost.
3.
Explore the city and the country.
4.
Embrace the good and the bad.
5.
Stay Positive always
6.
Most important - be straight in your conversation.
